Frequently Asked Qestions

1) Me and a couple friend want to come in and paint pottery, can we make a reservation? As a drop-in studio, we don’t take reservations for groups of fewer than six people. However, if you’re concerned about getting a table, feel free to call us 15 minutes before you arrive, and we’ll do our best to hold a spot for you. If we’re at capacity, we’ll add you to our waitlist and notify you when your table is ready.

2) How long to you store finished pottery? Due to limited space in our studio, we store finished pottery for 4-6 months, depending on our capacity. We don’t send reminders when your pottery is ready or when storage space runs out, so please plan to pick up your items in a timely manner.

3) Will you call me when my pottery is ready? No, we don’t call customers when pottery is ready. With up to 200 pieces unloaded from our kiln at a time, we aren't able to notify everyone individually. Instead, we provide reminder cards with your pick-up date when you leave. If you’ve lost your card, give us a call at 905-525-2225, and we’ll be happy to check on your piece for you.

4) Why did my pottery not survive the firing? Pottery is fired at extreme temperatures, often exceeding 2000°F, which can occasionally cause pieces to crack or even explode. While this is rare, it can happen, and we understand how disappointing it can be. If this happens to a hand-sculpted piece, we’re happy to offer you the chance to remake it. If it was part of a wheel lesson, you’ll still have several other pieces to take home.

4) I broke my favorite mug or lawn gnome, can you fix it? Unfortunately, we can’t repair or refire broken pottery. The original clay type and firing temperature may differ, and we wouldn’t want to risk melting your piece or damaging our kiln.

5) Can my young child come in and make something? Absolutely, all are welcome to paint. All of our paints are non-toxic and washable, so there’s no need to worry about stains. For wheel throwing, we recommend a minimum age of 7 years.

7) What types of pieces can we paint?
We have a variety of ready-to-paint pottery pieces, including mugs, bowls, plates, figurines, and seasonal items. Our selection varies throughout the year, so you’ll always find something new to create.

8) I’m a total beginner. Can I still come in and make something?
Absolutely. Our studio is perfect for beginners, and no experience is necessary to get started. We provide all the materials, tools, and guidance you need to create something special. If you’re interested in wheel throwing, our staff is available to help beginners learn the basics. For painting pottery, just choose a piece, and our friendly team will help you get set up with colors, brushes, and tips. Everyone’s welcome, and we love introducing new people to pottery!

9) What’s the difference between hand-building and wheel-throwing?
Hand-building and wheel-throwing are two different pottery techniques. Hand-building involves creating pottery using only your hands and simple tools, allowing you to shape, sculpt, and assemble pieces with creative freedom. It’s great for making unique, organic forms like pinch pots, mugs, or sculptures.

Wheel-throwing, on the other hand, uses a pottery wheel to spin clay, making it easier to create symmetrical shapes like bowls, plates, and vases. This technique requires some practice, but our staff is here to guide beginners through the basics. Both methods are rewarding and allow you to create beautiful, functional pottery!
